A lighthearted guide for those magical, messy first weeks
Bringing home your newborn is magical, emotional, exhausting, and “wait… are they breathing?” Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, those early days can feel like a beautiful blur. The good news? You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a few helpful reminders and a lot of grace. (alottttt of it)
Here’s your fun, no-pressure guide to the do’s and don’ts of newborn care to help you survive and thrive in those first precious weeks.
Newborn Must DO:
Soak up the snuggles. Skin-to-skin contact helps regulate your baby’s body temperature, calms fussiness, and boosts bonding (and it’s pretty amazing for you, too).
Feed on demand. Newborns eat often. Very often. Whether it’s breast, bottle, or both—frequent feeding is normal and healthy.
Follow safe sleep habits. Always place baby on their back, on a firm, clear surface. No loose blankets, pillows, or plushies needed.
Rest whenever possible. If your baby is sleeping and you can sleep—do it. The dishes will still be there later, we promise.
Ask for help early. Support is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. Help with meals, laundry, holding the baby so you can shower. (say yes to it all!)
Trust your instincts. You were made for your baby. You will receive a lot of advice, but your intuition matters most.
Newborn Please DON’T:
Overstimulate your newborn. Bright lights, loud sounds, constant handling, and too many visitors can overwhelm tiny nervous systems.
Play the comparison game. Every baby eats differently, sleeps differently, and develops differently. Social media is not real life.
Stress over every single cry. Crying is communication—not failure. Sometimes babies cry because they’re tired, gassy, or just need comfort.
Ignore your own recovery. Your body and mind are healing, too. Rest, hydration, nourishment, and emotional support matter deeply.
Chase perfection. There is no such thing as a perfect parent—only present, loving ones.
Newborn care is about learning as you go, loving deeply, and giving yourself enormous grace along the way. Some days will feel magical. Some days will feel overwhelming. Both are normal. Both are part of the journey.
You’re doing better than you think.
